The Very Best Like No One Ever Was: Kanto Edition!

Hey, remember this?

Indigo League has come to an end, and because I'm a sappy soul, I just can't move on without making a huge to-do about it.  And why not?  This was over a year and a half of fun!

...and this?  Fun times....

And so, this special episode bids a fond farewell to all that was season 1.  You can expect that I will wax nostalgic on the 90's, a finished map project, skimming through months and months of comments, and most importantly, the results of your voting.  Just who was the very best, like no one ever was?

A new map!  Finished! ... get these kids a PokeNav already...

Haha, click here to listen!

True Love...

HAPPY HANUKKAH!

Episode 81: It's My Party (And I'll Fly If I Want To)

The League has ended, so our heroes have returned to Pallet Town, where Mom and Professor Oak are throwing a party.  However, if you throw a party, you can expect Team Rocket to crash it.  Meanwhile, Route 1 is probably the most dangerous road in all the Pokemon world for Ash and Pikachu.  They've made a few enemies there... Tune in to see Revenge of the Spearow: This Time, It's Personal!

Episode 80: End of an Era

The competition is over, but the Flame of Moltres still burns on in our heroes' hearts.  Want to know who won?  Too bad, we'll never know that.  Want to know someone who didn't win?  We talk a lot about losing, have some fluffy friendship moments, and then it's back to Pallet Town.  Season One is almost over!
Tune in to listen!

Episode 79: The Clone Wars

News on Movie 16!

Oh, it's so sad when best friends fight... but there's no way around it.  Who will win?  Well, despite these two being clones... one person's chances are very, very low... and then Team Rocket gets involved.  Meanwhile, Ritchie's day isn't going so well, either.
...Tune in, someone's gotta win, someone's gotta lose.

Episode 78: Send In The Clones!

Ash unknowingly seals him doom in this episode... Normally, making friends is a good thing that this podcast endorses, but when it comes to the Pokemon League, well, let's just say Ash making friends here has never ended well... However, our new friend and rival is not only a nice guy, but competent as well!  Tune in to meet Ritchie, the Pokemon Nick-Namer!

And don't forget to vote for the Very Best Like No One Ever Was Awards!

What Brock and Misty wouldn't give for an excuse to clobber this kid...

Um... really?

Episode 75: Stop! Crabhammer Time!

The 8 Days of Hanukkah Marathon begins today, as does Ash's conquest of the Indigo League!  While we root for our boy to do his best in Isshu, let's take a walk down memory lane and see his first league competition.  There's a certain crab who has been just waiting for a chance to shine...

Episode 74: Through The Fire and the Flame!

Wahh!  So, news this week that excites me!  Look here!  Come on, look!

Otherwise, um, EPISODE ONE OF THE LEAGUE ARC!  ARE YOU EXCITED!  Yes, I am, if you couldn't tell.  Battles of professional grade, some of them might even involve Ash.  But first, we've got to kick off the opening ceremonies.  Tune in to hear how Ash recreates a classic Bible story (no, really) and Team Rocket takes a step up in child cruelty.
You can click here to listen!

Also, final reminder, email me at pikapipodcast@gmail.com with your ideas for our first, regional VERY BEST LIKE NO ONE EVER WAS awards.  Preliminary voting is almost over!

Episode 73: Samurai Jack and Dragonball Z

It's like a cosplay convention in this episode!  Weird costumes, people who look like they belong in other animes... and, as always, some side story about a kid trying to become a pokemon master.  Tune in as Ash and Pikachu tackle Victory Road!

Aaaand, don't forget!  We're making preparations for a special episode to celebrate finally finishing Indigo League!  Send an email to pikapipodcast@gmail.com with your answers to these questions.

Episode 72: Doing Our Research!

Shall we dance?

The first news is that we have a Facebook page!  YEAH!  And Twitter! (@PikapiPodcast) Double Yeah!  Sure, I'm kind of a noob, but this still promises fun.

But we also have an episode- strange hauntings at an archeological dig, Ash actually getting some training done, all good things.  For filler, this episode was a doozy. You can listen here!

And finally- preliminary voting begins for our first, regional "VERY BEST LIKE NO ONE EVER WAS" AWARDS!  I'm so excited!  Send an email to pikapipodcast@gmail.com with your answers to these questions, and we'll be able to make up the ballots for final voting.

Finally, Best Wishes is awesome.  Truly, it is.

Preliminary Voting!

  1. Best Character of the Day. (A character that only appeared in one episode, for example, Miranda, AJ or Bill the Lighthouse Guy. Ritchie and Snap are not eligible, but I will let Duplica be eligible for this award, despite the fact that she returns in Jhoto.)
  2. Best Supporting Pokemon (Not of the Main Party. So, no psyduck or Geodude, but yes, Jigglypuff is fine.)
  3. Best Main Pokemon. (In the party of either Ash, Brock or Misty. Critera for “best” is whatever you want it to be: skill, comedy, personality...)
  4. Best Team Rocket Disguise (Most fabulous or most effective, whatever)
  5. Best Dressed. (Take into account all costumes worn by this character, and please remember that Team Rocket is getting their own category.)
  6. Cutest Couple (AKA: The Shipping Award)
  7. Best Joys and Jennies (Please list their city and/or the episode they appeared in.)
  8. Best Team Rocket Plot (Preferably “most effective” but “overall fabulousness” is good, too)
  9. Mr. and Ms. Kanto (Not a couple, this will be two individual awards. Please take into account looks, charisma, aptitude and general sex appeal, if applicable.)
  10. Most Likely To Succeed
  11. Most Deserving of a Spinoff Series
  12. Best Actor (Pokemon. Please list the Pokemon's name and the actor who played them, and if you're familiar with the Japanese version, please do the same for the japanese characters/actors. If you grew up watching pokemon in some other language, you may submit a vote for your country's dub as well- we might make an award for that depending on the responses. Ikue Otani is eligible in all countries for Pikachu )
  13. Best Actor (Human. Again, list the character and actor, for whatever countries, PLEASE remember that you are only judging that actor for their work on ONE character, and only that character's appearance in this season. For example, vote for Rachel Lillis as Misty or Jessie, but not both, and don't vote for Veronica Taylor's Ash based on her work in Advanced Generation.)
  14. Least Likely to be Resurrected in the Event of an Apocalypse (just for laughs...)
  15. Most Improved (Human. Presumably at pokemon training, but whatever.)
  16. Most Improved (Pokemon. The same)
  17. Funniest Moment in Indigo League
  18. Best One-liner
  19. Best Team Rocket Motto
  20. Crowing Moment of Awesome
  21. Best Brock Love Speech...
  22. Best Anime-Exclusive City/Location (places that you don't see in the games.)
  23. Best Episode (the movie doesn't count)
  24. Best Podcast Episode (the movie counts ;)

I would also like to do some staff awards (best writer, animator) or stuff like that, but the information can be hard to come by- sometimes it's hard to figure out just who did what on this show. Bulbapedia is pretty good, but still... and then, not everybody is really familiar with the various writers and storyboarders, etc.
Would you all be interested in voting on creator awards? If so, what awards should we have, and what should the criteria be?

Episode 71: Yet Another Excuse To Not Train...

Yeah, Ash gets side-tracked yet again, rather like I, myself, did.  But at least he's doing something Pokemon related, right?  Hanging out with a member of the Elite Four has got to count for something.  Tune in to officially meet Bruno, Elite Four member and apparently, a master of something or other...

Luckily, this is not what it looks like.  But I'm sure he's thought about it.

Episode 70: Ready For Our Close-Ups!

Oh, someone overworked her little self and got sick, boo hoo.  October may not be a great month for regular episodes, but since Ash doesn't sound like he's doing a whole lot of training right now, I guess that's okay.  In fact... was he even in this episode?  Tune in to learn how Meowth came to be so vocal!

Also, the stats for my magicarp team that proudly went up against Gen II's Elite Four and WON!  Yeah!

News of a sort...

Hey, guys!  It's kind of stupid for me to forget to post this until just now, but... I'll be a guest on Bouncing Wailord this Sunday (AKA, tomorrow).  If you want to tune in for that, the show is live at 10pm ET, or you can listen to the audio version of the episode when it's posted.  If you'd like, please visit bouncingwailord.com to find out how you can listen!

Episode 69: To The Stars!

We could train for the Pokemon League, but you know, how often do you get to be part of a Hollywood movie?  And so, training takes yet another rest... Our heroes audition to be in a new feature film, some with more sucess than others.  But will they rewrite the plot with their own antics?
This man is in charge...
...but not everyone's dreams will come true...
...and the hopes are high...

...the stairway to heaven...
...and I don't know what to say about this shot...

Episode 68: Just Say No...

Today, we'll be visiting some place called the Xanadu Nursery, and you'd better like it, because it's either this, or chores.  Bulbasaur gets some smoochies, Brock does not, and Professor Oak makes a random appearance, like he is wont to do.  What is Team Rocket's dastardly plan?  Will Ash actually get around to training today?  Will Officer Jenny make a drug bust?  Tune in to find out, here on Pikapi Podcast!

Click here for the episode! You can also click on the title, seems that's back now...

Movie Episode 1: MewTwo Beats Up Everybody!

After last episode's disaster of having to listen to the Mr. Mime episode twice, we've uncrossed all our wires and bring you _Da da da DAAAA!_ Pokemon: The First Movie!
I'm so happy to have made it here!  Thanks to all the listeners for supporting me!  Hopefully, you enjoy the special movie episode, and I can entertain you for well over an hour.  There will be laughs, there will be sap, there will be meta rants, all the usual, just much more of it!

Click here!  Tune in to listen as MewTwo gets both violent and existential, while Ash just wants to go to the "cool kids" party.

Episode 67: If Everybody Had An Ocean...

Ash clearly took all of his Intelligence stats and threw them into Luck...
Surfin' Kanto, we've arrived just in time for the one-in-twenty-year wave, Humunga Dunga!  Ash was training in the Seafoam Islands, but I think the allure of surfing is going to pull he and Pikachu from their goal.  But to make us see double, there's a second Pikachu featured in this episode... Tune in to meet Puka, the cute, aging surfer of the seas!

Click here to listen!  Now fixed!

Better watch out, waves!

Also, I made an error in the episode title:  Today we're reviewing episode 67: The Pi-Kahuna, not "Surf's up, Pikachu".  Sorry, we did not go manga on you all, I just mixed some stuff up.

Tuesday, August 14, 2012

Episode 66: Yet Another Weirdo Scientist...

Seriously, why are all the scientists in Kanto total nut jobs?  Even Proffesor Oak is a bit wacky.  I don't know if this qualifies as training, but Ash certainly thinks so, and hey, I'm all up for that kid getting some knowledge crammed into his head.  And so, it's off to the beach!  We visit Seafoam Islands and answer a few questions about Shellder and Slowpoke... and ask a great many more...

This was my reaction, too...

Episode 65: The Showdown Was A Lie

So, it's time for the Pokemon League- oh, wait, psyche out... Well, Ash and Gary are gonna finally have that battle, right? Nope, psyched you out again.  What does go down in this episode?  Well, you'll have to tune in to find out, won't you? ;)  All I'll tell you is that a building gets destroyed by a cameo, and a fence gets destroyed by a plot hole.  Click here to listen!

There may not be a battle, but there will be this...

 And some of this....

A bit of this....

And, in case we forgot to mention, a whole lot of this....

Why wouldn't you want to tune in?

Episode 64: Ash Ketchum's Flying Circus!

The Circus is coming to town!  Some our heroes are going to be getting in on the action, Delia may show up, and Ash is going to have a chance to prove just what he's worth without his pokemon team.  Also, some dueling Mr. Mimes.  It's a high-flying act, in more ways than one!  Click here to listen!

Tuesday, July 10, 2012

Episode 63: A Two for One Deal!

Not one gym battle, but two!  The revelation of Team Rocket's leader!  More property damage to Viridian City!  And, a twist on gym battles that feels like it came straight out of a fanfic!  They've crammed so much into one episode, but here at Pikapi Podcast, we're gonna push more in like the white-gloved guards at a Tokyo train station!  Tune in to hear all of the above, plus some postulation on Ash's parentage, and why that kid always stays ten!  This is the last gym battle for the region, so, you knew it was going to be epic!

Episode 62: Independance Day

The aliens are back!  Just in time for the fourth of July, and how grateful I am to live in a place that allows me the means and the freedom to make podcasts, even silly ones like this!
Do you guys have a favorite scriptwriter on the Pokemon staff?  I don't know if I have a favorite, but I have noticed that there's a bit of a difference between some of them... Tune in for that, or to hear the return of the aliens!  Click here to listen!

Episode 61: Part of Your World!

Misty should get into Pokemon Musicals.  At least, her sisters would agree, though it might be difficult to sing while underwater.  Well, whatever, we're going to get a show tonight, possibly more show than we bargained for... Tune in to watch The Misty Mermaid, or Swan Lake... I think Team Rocket want to be stars, too... Also, the Town Map has been updated!  These kids need a PokeNav...  Click here to listen, and check out the map below!

Episode 60: No Bleach Involved!

Despite my inability to say "Beach Blank-out Blastoise" without suggesting some terrible crossover (someone on the internet is probably writing the fic and thinks it's a wonderful idea...), we manage to get through the entire episode and most of the comments without too many shenanigans.  So many comments: THANKS, GUYS! :) :) If I didn't get you before the episode went up, I'll be sure to read yours next week- the discussions are getting lively!  Today, Ash and co. journey to the island of turtle pokemon, but turtles aren't the only pokemon they'll find there... unfortunately...  Click here to listen!

Saturday, June 9, 2012

Episode 59: Hear the Mighty Dragon Roar!

The epic conclusion to our Volcano Badge conquest, along with some discussion on the Comatose Ash Ketchum Theory.  What do you guys think of it?  Well, we'll find out what Veronica Taylor thinks of it, and it prompts your podcast host to come up with the plot for the ULTIMATE POKEMON MOVIE!  Now we've just got to get Pikachu Project to listen to this podcast... or you guys can run off with the fanfics, I don't care.  Tune in to hear this exciting battle!  You can find a thread on Coma Theory here, and watch Veronica Taylor's full Q&A panel here!

The very best, like no one ever was...

Episode 58: Aim For The Horn!

The day has arrived!
After weeks and weeks of wandering through Kanto, our heroes have finally made their way to Cinnabar!  Is it a gym location, or a tourist trap?  What awaits Ash in this seventh Gym challenge?  Well, Pikachu actually looks eager to fight, so whatever happens, I guess we'd better roll with it...Whether or not you think they can win, remember, a little clever aim can go a long way... Click here to listen!

Monday, May 28, 2012

Episode 57: Pokemon Love Power!

The gang checks some Pokemon into a daycare/spa breeding center.  This wouldn't be a problem, except it's run by a Team Rocket Unit, and Misty wants ice cream.  Well, there go our plans for the day... Tune in for the debut of Butch and Cassidy!  Please click here to listen!

Saturday, May 19, 2012

Episode 56: Testing My Theory!

This episode was somewhat hijacked by the latest news releases for the new Best Wishes season as well as Pokemon Black 2 and White 2.  You can hear all about my theory on how Ash is going to win his first league conference this year... yes, I do believe that, and I'm sticking by it!  If you make it through my logic, we'll eventually get to the episode:  Ash is going to take a test to get into the Pokemon League?  No, kid, stick with your psychotic battle strategies, they're kind of working for you.

Episode 55: I Wanna Be In Pictures!

It's not movie time quite yet, but pull out your sunglasses and get ready for all those flashing lights:  A photographer is in the house!  In this episode, Ash and Pikachu both get paranoid (possibly with good reason), Snap proves there's a fine line between devotion to your art and stalking, and I hate on Brock and Misty because SERIOUSLY, GUYS?!  ARE YOU KIDDING ME?  Tune in to join the fun!

Monday, May 14, 2012

Episode 54: Going to the Dogs...

What memories does Pokemon stir up for you?  For me, this episode reminds me of a time when I broke someone's tv... but it's a great episode, with lot's of cosplay, police training, and Pikachu managing to be both fail and brilliant at the same time!  Tune in to meet Growlithe, Jennie's Ultra-Awesome K9 Force!

Episode 53: Purrr- fection!

Yet another holiday is upon us, Happy Children's Day!  We've actually managed to sync up the episode with the real world timeline, sort of, which is more than the original series was able to do, thanks to Porygon.  Meowth is gonna be heroic, maybe, and some babysitting will go down... one thing that definitely won't happen?  Finding Cinnabar for the Gym Battle!  Click Here to listen to the episode!
